OFMC partners with AcceptD, a digital platform used for auditions, to run our state competitive scholarships.
All OFMC Competitive events are held online via this platform.

The following four events are held in the fall of each year, opening October 15th and Closing December 1st:
D. Suzanne Raines Young Pianist, Ages 12-15
Marjorie Trotter Memorial Scholarship, Ages 16-22, Piano and Strings
Sampley-Conn Award, Ages 16-22, Strings
Louis and Violet Lang Memorial Opera, Ages 16-18 High-School and College ages 18-20
The following two events are held in the spring of each year, opening March 1st and closing April 30th

Recent Winners- December 2020

Marjorie Trotter Award
Jacob Nenow, Piano, 1st Place
Jacob Nenow is 16 years old and a sophomore at Jesuit High School. He is a piano student of Dr. Renato Fabbro and has played piano from the age of seven. Jacob won first prize in the 2020 Vancouver Symphony Young Artists Competition and will be performing Bach's Piano Concerto in D minor with the symphony in January 2021. He also won first prize in the 2020 Coeur d'Alene Symphony National Young Artist Competition, the 2018 and 2019 Portland Steinway & Sons Piano Competitions and the 2018 Oregon MTNA Junior Piano Competition. Jacob won second prize in the Central Oregon Symphony Young Artist Competition and performed the 3rd Beethoven Piano Concerto with the symphony in 2019. He also won the Colliver Award for best piano performance in the 2019 Monday Musical Club of Portland Scholarship Competition. In addition to piano Jacob loves math and is a member of his school cross country and track team.

Joshua Ji, Piano, 2nd Place
Joshua Ji is a 16-year-old pianist and a junior at Sunset High School. He began studying piano at age 4, and currently studies with Kelli Stephens. Joshua is a member of the Portland Youth Philharmonic, and has appeared on All Classical Portland’s On Deck with Young Musicians as well as Thursdays @ Three. He has won numerous competitions, including the 2017 MetroArts Young Artists Debut! Competition Mary Tooze Memorial Scholarship and the 2019 PYP Youth Piano Concerto Competition. He also accompanied the 2016 & 2017 Rising Stars Ballet Concerts, and played piano in his high school band. Besides piano, Joshua enjoys photography and objectively good jokes.
D. Suzanne Raines Award Alex Tran, Piano, 1st Place Alex is 12 years old and is in the 7th grade at Hillsboro Online Academy and Johns Hopkins University CTY. He began studying piano at age 8 1/2 and currently studies with Dr. Renato Fabbro. He has won first prizes in the OMTA Oregon Sonatina/Sonata Festival and Spokane Piano Competition, and second prize in the Ages 11-12 Division of the 2020 Bay Area Piano Competition. Alex also plays the violin and clarinet, and his other interests include math, computer programming and ballroom dancing. |
D. Suzanne Raines Award Alexis Zou, Piano, 2nd Place Alexis is a 7th grader at Lake Oswego Junior High School. She is a student of Paula Watt and Dr. Renato Fabbro, and has been studying piano for 7 years. She has won alternate for the 2020 Oregon MTNA Junior Piano Competition and first prizes at Spokane Piano competitions. In addition to piano, Alexis enjoys writing, drawing, and playing golf. She is the school spelling bee champion for the last two years and has won several state art contests. |
